Introduction to Elcon pre cast system

An introduction to elcon pre cast system

Some 40 years ago, a team of concrete engineers sought to make radical improvements to flat panel construction technology, work which led to the Elcon of today and the development of the unique building system that bears the Elcon name.

The innovation created by that team was to cast two flat panels together as one ‘L’ shaped panel as a load bearing element of a building structure. The advantage of the ‘L’ shaped panel is that in most situations it does not require propping and supporting during erection and horizontal panel topanel connections are not required. The panels can be cast in large sizes (up to 25m2 for normal storey heights) and this means that the number of joints is vastly reduced compared to conventional flat panel systems.

Since the discovery of this innovation, the benefits of the `L’ shaped panel system have been appreciated the world over with the successful, trouble free completion of thousands of dwellings, apartments, hotels, campuses and military cantonments. The strength and ruggedness of the system means that the buildings can be economically constructed over twelve storeys high and in the most hostile geological environments. The Elcon Building System can be designed to meet the requirements of building codes for seismic design in all countries.
Elevation of Worker Housing Project, UAE
In africa, Elcon has a track record extending to over 20 years featuring various governmental and housing projects constructed in Nigeria and Ghana. Elcon presently has an Elcon factory in Lagos producing Elcon components for structures for apartment projects as shown elsewhere in this brochure. Design work for these projects is carried out using Elcon’s UK based consultants working in partnership with local consultants. Similarly, factory production and site construction is overseen by Elcon UK staff managing a Local Elcon trained workforce. Elcon UK provides a full technical back – up package to Elcon Southern Sudan including Construction Management, Project Management and all aspects of design. Design embraces everything from conceptual massing to final working drawings using state of the art design software. Using the Elcon system, structures can be erected twice as fast as can be achieved by conventional methods. Therefore finishings and services have to match this pace to reap the time and economic benefits. Elcon has vast experience of the management of this process and consequently Elcon Southern Sudan has the same capacity to handle fast track large scale design and build turnkey projects.
